Borden Tract
Govalle | 21.4 Acres | 1400 Units | Reading: ① - ② - ③ | Approved
Endeavor’s Borden Tract faced both praise and criticism when it came before Austin's City Council for approval. The 21.4 acre mixed-use development next to Lady Bird Lake had received unanimous support from the Planning Commission but met resistance from community groups. Read about it’s second reading here, it’s first reading here and it’s planning commission meeting here.
Opposition centered around the proposed 120-foot height and fears of environmental impact.

"The irony of this all is that this proposed development will later on, cause displacement of the residents there.
Others like Monica Guzman created worry about the project.

"The damage this development will cause to the natural infrastructure, to the wildlife at the animal wildlife sanctuary.
Conversely, resident Gary Babbits praised the project.

"Taking an industrial site and parking lot and turning it into a mixed-use development for people to live, work, eat, and play...this kind of development is its own community benefit.
Responding to concerns, Suttle highlighted the revised 75-foot vegetative buffer along the nature preserve and the choice of the Conservancy for community benefits to prevent displacement. As Chito Vela summarized:

"The height has no effect on runoff. It has no effect on the sanctuary.
Despite calls for postponement, the Council ultimately sided with the developer, passing Borden Tract 8-1 on 3rd reading.
